We embarked on an unforgettable 5-day adventure in the mesmerizing Cederberg region, immersing ourselves in its array of captivating attractions. Our focus centered around an assortment of hikes, ranging from leisurely strolls to exhilarating challenges. Among these, we trekked the ‘Disa Pools hike’ and the renowned ‘Maltese Cross hike,’ while also conquering the demanding Woolfberg Cracks and Woolfberg Arch trail. Covering approximately 15 kilometers round trip from the Woolfberg Cracks car park, this particular route is best enjoyed in the company of fellow adventurers, ensuring both safety and shared memories. Moreover, our exploration of the region extended beyond hiking, as we indulged in the delightful world of Cederberg’s finest wines, paying visits to the esteemed Kromrivier and Cederberg vineyards.
Behold the Enigmatic Rock Formation
The Maltese Cross stands proudly as a distinctive and awe-inspiring rock formation, resembling a colossal cross that reaches up to 20 meters in height. Nestled amidst the foothills of the majestic Sneeuberg, it proves to be a captivating half-day excursion suitable for all, including young children, thanks to its mildly challenging terrain. The surrounding boulders offer idyllic picnic spots, inviting moments of relaxation and awe. Since its first ascent in 1949, the Cross has captivated climbers with its five distinct routes of varying difficulty. However, scaling this majestic structure is highly recommended for experienced rock climbers only. To reach the Maltese Cross, follow the trail from the left side of the parking area. Begin with a jeep track, then progress along a winding path for approximately 3 kilometers until you crest a ridge on the right side of a shallow kloof. Continuing along the ridge for another 3 kilometers, you will cross a stream at the head of the kloof, before triumphantly arriving at the Maltese Cross itself, with the magnificent backdrop of the Sneeuberg mountain range. Our overnight accommodation cost will also have to be included. The cost will be calculated for the applicable hike date.
Our 2 to 3 hour hike or walk is R 500.00 per person minimum 2 people there is a charge of R 250.00 per additional person.
Half day or part thereof, includes tea, coffee and muffins. R 700.00 per person minimum 2 people. There is a charge of R 350.00 per additional person.
