The Kgalagadi Safari in the Transfrontier Park is a merger of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana. Most tourism happens on the South Africa side, which has excellent facilities. Visitors with a 4×4 that are totally self-sufficient and can have a great wilderness experience on the Botswana side, which only has very basic campsites. In a South African context, this park is different than any other. The red sand dunes in the inhospitable desert form a magnificent backdrop for wildlife viewing and photography. The park lacks many species found in the more lush Savannah reserves, but offers great predator sightings.

Where the red dunes and scrub fade into infinity and herds of Gemsbok, springbok, eland. The herds blue wildebeest follow the seasons. Imposing camel thorn trees provide shade for huge black-mane lions and vantage points for leopard and many raptors… this is the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park.

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park comprises an area of over 3,6 million hectares – one of very few conservation areas of this magnitude left in the world.

Red sand dunes, sparse vegetation and the dry riverbeds of the Nossob and Auob show antelope and predator species off to spectacular advantage.  Kgalagadi  provides excellent photographic opportunities, and is also a haven for birders, especially those interested in birds of prey.
