Overberg Wine Ramble

DAY 1

On the Overberg Wine Ramble, check in to your 4-star cottage on a beautiful Nguni farm in the Hemel & Aarde Valley, a 40 hectare working farms within walking distance of many of the valleys award winning wine estates.

First Option 1  : Arrival in the valley after 12:00

A scenic, mostly downhill & easy walk from the top of Rotary Way though aromatic mountain fynbos to sample the fruit of Hamilton Russell‘s Estate vineyard.  Hamilton Russell is one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa and pioneered viticulture & winemaking in the Hemel & Aarde Valley. (Distance 5km)

Option 2 : Arrival in the valley before 11:00

Transfer to Fernkloof Reserve, a gem in the Cape Floral Kingdom where we experience exceptional floral biodiversity and magnificent scenery.  Walking from the visitor’s center in Fernkloof Reserve we follow a path to the Jeep track and head along to Rotary Way –thereafter the same as Option A. (Distance 10km)

Take a leisurely stroll to Bouchard Finlayson, globally acclaimed for producing the best Pinot Noir in South Africa as well as exceptional Chardonnays’ & Sauvignon Blancs. The deli platter will not disappoint as you enjoy the beautiful garden setting.

From Bouchard Finlayson you will be transferred back to the farm for a relaxing evening

Overberg Ramble

On DAY 2

Enjoy a hearty farm breakfast before stretching your legs on one of the most scenic walking routes in the valley. We start our walk through the vineyards of Sumaridge Estates 104 acres nestling within 2 imposing mountain ranges in the Upper Hemel & Aarde Valley. Follow the  trail along country roads and single tracks through horse stud and berry farms with some magnificent mountain scenery en route to Moggs Country Restaurant for lunch.   An apple orchard and a fynbos field to walk before reaching our overnight stop.  In the shade of the oak trees we relax in the garden for another sensory overload as we sample a selection of South Africa’s Craft Gins.

DAY 3

Enjoy breakfast before we follow a track on the overberg ramble skirting the base of the fynbos – lined mountain to Newton-Johnson vineyards. This route winds through vineyards, La Vierge Winery and downhill to the De Bos dam, the Hermanus water supply dam. The lovely farmlands and fynbos ramble takes us to the tasting room of Sumaridge for a wine tasting and magnificent platter.  A short walk to Newton Johnson to sample their wine before we make our way to the farm (Distance 10.5 km)

Overberg Ramble

The Final DAY 4

On day 4 of the overberg ramble we cover a 12 km walk along the pristine blue flag Grotto Beach to a sandstone rock outcrop. The outcrop is know as Sopieskilp where we enjoy a  pack-lunch and coffee on the rocks. Interesting Marine life and shipwreck history make this a most enjoyable walk. Return to Grotto to celebrate the walks end.
